DAY 20: Re-evaluation Our Priorities
Day 20: Re-evaluating Our Priorities
Scripture: Matthew 6:33 - “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Reflection: In the midst of holiday demands and innumerable commitments, it takes deliberate intention to refocus our priorities on God's kingdom. Jesus's teaching in Matthew reminds us to seek God's kingdom first, a directive that re-centers our hearts and maximizes our joy and effectiveness as believers. Amidst life's hustle, reflect on your current priorities: Where does seeking God's kingdom fit within your daily life? Is there a tension between your commitments and your devotion to God?
During Advent, we’re called to a contemplative journey, realigning our priorities with God’s eternal perspective. Oftentimes, we default to filling our lives with tasks that only hold temporary significance, sacrificing deeper spiritual growth that would lead to eternal treasures. Prioritizing God’s kingdom involves more than attending church; it’s an ongoing pursuit of His righteousness in everyday decisions, interactions, and thoughts. The call isn’t to abandon earthly responsibilities but to integrate them meaningfully with your spiritual journey, using daily opportunities to reflect Christ's love and wisdom.
Consider your daily schedule and goals, where might there be room for Christ’s teachings to infiltrate the ordinary moments? Are prayer, scripture, and service woven into the fabric of your weekly routine? By integrating and aligning God's values with your life choices, you experience His promise of abundant life and a deep, abiding peace that stands firm even amidst life's chaos.
Action Item: Conduct a “priority audit” list your daily commitments and see where you can integrate more time for spiritual growth, such as prayer, study, or service.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me align my heart and priorities to Your kingdom. Teach me to seek Your righteousness in all I do, trusting Your promise of provision. May my life reflect Your purpose in each action and decision. Amen.
