FAMILY Day 1: Making Room for the King

Day 1: Making Room for the King

Scripture: Isaiah 40:3-5 (NIV) - "Prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God."

Reflection: Advent is a special season, much like getting ready for a visitor or a big celebration at home. Imagine your room piled high with all your favorite toys, books, and clothes. It might be so full that there's no room for your best friend to sit and play with you. That's a bit like our hearts. Sometimes they're so full of activities, worries, and stuff that we forget to save space for Jesus. Isaiah's message tells us to prepare a straight road for God, which means making our hearts ready and open for Him.

Think about clearing a path through a snowy yard. It takes effort, but once it's done, it feels so satisfying and ready for fun! During Advent, let's clear a path in our hearts by focusing on love, kindness, and spending time with Jesus. Maybe we can try to be a little less busy or worry a little less about perfect gifts. Instead, think of ways to invite Jesus into every part of our day, while we play, eat, learn, and rest. Preparing our hearts helps us excitedly celebrate Jesus' birthday, knowing our hearts are ready to welcome the King!

Family Activity: As a family, talk about ways to make room for Jesus. Maybe it means spending more time praying or helping a friend in need. Write down one thing each person will do this week to make more room for Jesus and post it on the fridge.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help us clean up our hearts and make space for You this Advent season. Thank You for being our friend! Amen.
