Day 13: Citizens of His Kingdom

Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

Reflection: Did you know that we’re all part of a really awesome kingdom? Jesus’s kingdom is full of love, justice, and kindness, much cooler than any storybook land! During Advent, we can remember that being part of this kingdom means showing love and being kind to everyone around us. It means listening to Jesus and living the way He teaches us. We’re like ambassadors, special helpers, who get to bring His kingdom wherever we go. Let’s talk about how we can act like true kingdom citizens, spreading Jesus’s love at home, in our neighborhood, and wherever we are!

Family Activity: Together, create a “kingdom goals” list. As we embrace our role as citizens of Jesus’s kingdom, it’s meaningful to set family goals that reflect His values and teachings. This can become a guide for how your family chooses to live and interact with the world.

By setting these goals, your family can actively engage in living out the principles of Jesus's kingdom, making a positive difference in your own lives and in the lives of others.

Here are some ideas for goal categories to get you started:

Family Worship Goal

Community Service Goal

Hospitality Goal

Encouragement Goal

Family Prayer Goal

Write & Display: Write these goals down creatively, whether it’s a big poster or a colorful chart, to place somewhere you’ll all see regularly, like near the dining table or in a hallway.

Reflect & Renew: Schedule regular family meetings to reflect on these goals, celebrate what’s been accomplished, and renew your commitments. This is a great opportunity to share stories of how living out these goals has impacted your lives and those around you.

Prayer: King Jesus, help us live as true citizens of your kingdom, showing your love and kindness to everyone around us. Let our lives reflect your glory. Amen.
